Default Could not create a new document because Permission denied (13) while creating

Hi,
I just installed PT 11. I tried starting a new session and am getting this message-
Could not create a new document because Permission denied (13) while creating "smsjan2015".
(smsJan2015 is the session name i want to create)
I looked at another thread addressing this but it does not apply to me. I am on Mac(see all details below).
THanks
Chris

Update-
tried a re-install. Same problem, I can access older sessions from the Lacie HD but I still can't create a new one. Very frustrating with a deadline looming....

2 things:
#1-NEVER update anything if you have a project in the works

#2-(sorry if my terminology is off) trash prefs and repair disk permissions

How is the Lacie HD formatted? It will tell you in the Disk Utility application.
And you are saying it is connected via thunderbolt to thunderbolt?

What are the settings of the drive in the Workspace Browser?
PT Reference Guide > Chapter 16: Workspace Browsers
Quote:
Performance Volumes These are storage volumes
(hard drives) that are suitable for playback and
have been designated in the Workspace browser as
Record and Playback (R) or Playback Only (P) of
media files in a Pro Tools session.

Hi Bruce, thanks for your post.
Formatting of Lacie HD is 'MAC OS EXTENDED(Journaled)'
It is connected to my MacBook through the thunderbolt port with the thunderbolt lead on the HD.
I have a session on it that I can open and work on but the error problem is when I try and open a new session.
I tried opening a new session and saving it to the hard drive on my macbook but i got the same error message.
Can't figure out how to see what are the settings of the drive in Workspace Browser.
thanks again
chris

Try this:

"How do I repair permissions?
The Repair Disk Permissions function is part of Apple’s Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). After launching Disk Utility, select the desired disk—generally your startup disk—in the list to the left, then click the First Aid tab. At the bottom of the First Aid panel, click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (You could instead use the Verify Disk Permissions option to preview any potential repairs before performing them, but for most users there’s little benefit from this extra step.)"

Hi Park,
thanks for the detailed instructions! When I did what you suggested it told me there was no problems, so 'verify disk permissions' was not a clickable option. Still no joy!!! As i said, I can open other projects from the Lacie, and even when I tried saving it to MacBook hard drive i got the same error 13 message.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again
chris
