That's only because they haven't written the windows version. Now, even a trailers/commercials Dolby license requires a full Atmos install to qualify. Plenty of high end studios are exclusively windows. Don't believe the fruity hype.

I haven't seen a windows system in LA, ever. I still say that if the true demand were there, more than 50 percent, Dolby would do it.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

Though from the sound of it, they are fighting with AVID hard. So maybe its an AVID problem overall.
Seems like many of the problems now are coming from AVID.

It's the same chicken and egg as UA or SourceElements. With the rise of competing immersive systems it's Dolby that need to pull their fingers out. Their plugins have always been buggy and generally crap, even on Macs.

Look at what's happened with the Slate Raven. He's resolutely Mac, and in reaction a far better value Windows equivalent has been developed over here in Europe, where developers don't have their heads so firmly up Apple's derrière... Apple is no longer a professional equipment manufacturer.

By producing non expandable products with glued shut cases and soldered in components, while concentrating hard on mobile, without saying it in type, Apple HAVE indeed said it by their actions. A new MacPro is simply not a wise professional business investment anymore. But anyway, this is about Dolby and Avid. I bet the real reason behind Dolby's grumpiness is that PT supports other immersive systems. One thing I've noticed, those Californian tech companies don't seem to like level playing fields...

Now you're being picky. If a computer manufacturer produces a machine that I can't directly plug an INDUSTRY STANDARD PCIe card into, it is obvious they don't give two hoots about professionals, unless they use their software, which they've also dumbed down beyond belief. It'd be like an audio interface having a proprietary audio connector rather than jack or XLR.

But we digress. Dolby need to wake up and smell that west coast coffee. In the same way as Apples are not the only fruit, Dolby is not the only surround system.

They have recently moved the goalposts as far as studio certification goes. Now, for just a Trailer / Commercial license, there's no minimum room size, but it has to have the minimum Atmos install. However, for a full features room, there is a minimum size, but you only need to install 7.1, and have the ability to install Atmos on demand. This shift in policy is nothing to do with driving forward tech standards, but all to do with Dolby desperately trying to get some money out of the post production sector, now that most features and short form bypass them and go straight to DCP. Remind you of anyone? Familiarity breeds contempt.

Dolby have been shedding jobs here in the UK. Sort of a sad parallel to other large companies that are now contracting and trying to wring ever more money out of their customers. Having seen their original bodge job kit (external radio shack PSU on a Dolby encoder that was connected via unbalanced solder tags to the decoder), all I can say is, those in glass houses....

Hello. Technically they are still making at least two computer lines that are designed and intended for professional use, and which also happen to have that in their name. They still make the Macbook Pro laptop and the Mac Pro computer. The ashtray Mac Pro is a phenomenal machine for graphics and video editing for even the most demanding professional gig. For audio it is a bit more cumbersome but still very capable. The laptop is pretty good still for professional applications.

However that's neither here nor there. While we could argue about the viability of a computer for professional uses, what can't be argued is that Apple as a corporation couldn't give a rat's behind about professional applications or products. They went so far as to take the mention of it off of their corporate definition, their mission statement that had been a part of for over a decade.

http://alex4d.com/notes/item/apple-d...ate-definition

Now you may argue that they just took professional 'applications' off but that doesn't mean they don't make professional 'products'. As I mentioned above that's neither here nor there. The fact is they are now and have been for quite a while all about consumer products. iPhone, iPad, iOs, iTunes, etc. If they stopped selling computers altogether it would be a blip on their radar.

As some of you may already know, Apple is doing R&D for either manufacturing a car or doing something major related to car navigation and/or car entertainment. Every day that passes Apple moves further and further away from anything remotely related to the Audio, Video and Graphics professions. This can not be questioned by anyone.
