Default Disapearing regions????

well, this is a new one on me. my editor said he was having regions spontaneuosly disappear off the timeline, but i didn't really believe him, until it just happened to me! going back through another pass on a show, and dialogue simply missing. i KNOW i did not delete the region. its the same session as my editor, but two different G5 computers, both running PTHD 7.3.1cs2, and OSX 10.4.8.

anybody seen this????

i've got a client review in 2 hours - this is going to be very embarassing if it happens during...

Hi Joe! I believe I have experienced similar circumstances in the past. It is hard to convince anyone, including myself, that I did not accidentally hit delete or undo. It's just that something was gone the next day. It has happened more than once prior to 7.3 but not very often. I have always been able to go to a previous day's autosave and find what I needed (the audio file was never deleted) which is another argument that I might have accidentally deleted from a track somehow. However, a couple weeks ago I was editing with 7.3.1 and noticed that as I scrub trimmed the head of this particular region, as soon as I released the mouse then several regions (more than one) a few seconds earlier on the timeline simply vanished. Undo brought them back, but any scrub-trim on the head of that region repeated the trouble. A regular trim was okay. I moved some regions up or down to different tracks and the problem went away. It did not come back for the duration of that rather long project. I can easily imagine that a similar problem got you. I remember thinking at the time that it was going to be a f^^^er.

I've seen this while tracking vocals...pretty embarrsing when the singer asks you to hear the last take and it's gone---they never leave the region bin , just the timeline--so making incremental playlists helps. And you can always just look for the region by name and drag it back in. Not wishing bad news on anyone but at least it's not just my computer that acts really weird sometimes. I wasn't sure if it was a 7.2 bug or just my computer.

I think this is related to the PT punch-in problem thread that is somewhere else on the DUC.

Today I've seen it a couple of times while recording ADR and editing regions in the timeline. Sometimes when you edit or trim a region, it suddenly becomes another (older) one, with the region before it also changing. Sometimes it happens when you move to regions to close to each other. Dragging one of the regions to another track editing it there and moving it back often is a solution. Using the undo key helps as well And I always have my autosave at 2 minutes...

But it is a rather weird thing that started in the latest PT incarnations.

Greetings,

Thierry

This has happened to me also. Usually whilst trimming, the region drops off the timeline and is replaced by what was there before!! Needs to be addressed DIGI!?

Yes, I've followed those threads. The problem I saw with 7.3.1 happened while I was editing production tracks. No recording of any kind. Personally, I've not experienced the punch mode problem although I have done a considerable amount of punch recording lately.

In the past I have experienced regions that were there and mixed into position, I continue to work in sequence, and a day or more later when I go to play back, an element or dialog clip is missing. Did I accidently hit undo too many times? Maybe, who knows what happened. I have not seen this particular thing with 7.3.1. Yet.

Make sure you don't have a lot of saved stuff (sessions, large sound or video files, etc.) on the Desktop. Moving this to another drive and keeping your main drive as sparse as you can solved the problem for me.
