002 ghost MIDI notes

Using PT LE 8.03 with 002 I noticed that when MIDI thru option is enabled, my 002 sends a MIDI note on to enabled MIDI tracks with just about every button push on the control surface. Mix button sends C#-2, Edit button sends D-2 and so on.
These notes hang, because there is no corresponding note off.
Is this a known bug or a feature?
