Stay HD just for the D-Command

As far as I understand it the ability to use Icon consoles resides in whether the Protools ap is HD or not. I do not think that having the ilok asset for a previous version will help - neither will personality files - it is either on or off with the rest of the HD functionality of the actual Protools application that is running.

No, this ilok only had non HD bundle with PT10/11/12 on it and no HD licenses at all.

As said before, the ICON doesn't have anything to do with what licenses are on the ilok, just what Version of PT you have opened so even if I have an ilok with both HD and non HD bundles, if i open a non HD PT version the ICON Controller only looks inside that PT version for the personality files, not on the iloks at all.

I saw the S3 in action yesterday for the first time. Young female engineer was blazing fast on that thing with PT and Logic. The small footprint is a plus. Thinking about getting one now.

I would get an in person demo by someone experienced with it before dismissing it. I haven't seen the PT ipad app in person but the combo of that with the S3 may be a good alternative.

It still doesn't have things like:

- dedicated dynamics section
- dedicated eq section
- great monitoring controller
- fully assignable knobs on channels, locally per channel
- one channel fader flip (think: delay send on 1 fader, delay return on fader 2)
- custom fader maps
- visual indicators for multiple parameters like pre/post roll, quickpunch, etc.

...and the list can go on and on...

Plus Diginet protocol is proven and rock solid. Desk doesn't disappear on you.
