Default zoom strategies

I'm just learning PT after coming from cubase and one of the things that's taking some adjustment is the zoom implementation. There are 2 aspects of this I find frustrating:

1. PT's choice of keys (2 required) feels clunky and non-ergonomic.
If I don't want to let go of the mouse I have to crank my left had across the keyboard and hold down a bizzare combination of keys. Am I the only person who thinks that's an odd choice of keys?
Much to my disbelief, PT seems to lack customizable key commands.
Cubase uses the G and H keys. One key for in, one for out. Comfortably located in the center of the keyboard right underneath the first two fingers of the left hand.

2. The zoom action itself is extremely coarse compared to just about any other program I can think of. Big jerky steps. Is there a way to adjust the zoom action to something finer?

Is there another way to zoom in and out in an efficient and ergonomic manner? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1) Use R and T. One key for zoom in one for out only about 1 inch away from G and H ;-)

2) No. No wait: you can hold alt and turn your wheel on the mouse for horizontal zoom. Maybe it was ctrl or apple or shift. I´m not in front of the machine right now. Try for yourself.

Frank.

Are you sure you are using R and T and not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 for zooming?
I'm using both Cubase and Pro Tools and the difference between G,H to R,T is not even mentionable. Try F5 for the zoom tool. If you use single zoom after zooming the tool jumps to the previous selected tool.

Hope it helps.

Ah....R and T...you say!
At first I didn't know what you were talking about. Then I discovered keyboard focus...MUCH BETTER!!!

Thank you!

I was zooming using the "<APPLE>+[]" commands as listed in the manual. I didn't realize there was an entire set of alternate commands.

The resolution is much finer this way too.

Thanks again!
