Default My S6 has arrived!

Took me quite a few hours to assemble it all, man that is a lot of boxes for a small footprint console! I got the M40-16-5-D, and the boxes literally took up a whole palette on the truck! Anyway at least good to see that it was well packed and arrived in perfect condition.

So after using it for about a week now, I must say I just love this console. There have been a couple of minor issues but certainly not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for working on it. It's funny, one of my clients said "man, your new console sounds great!" Haha! Actually it's not as silly as it sounds to say that - the fact is that when the workflow is so good, and control over plugin parameters is really fine, I end up doing better mixes. So even though it doesn't pass any audio or do any processing, I have no doubt that it improves the quality of my mixes.

There is a lot more to come in the future software updates which I am excited about, and there are a number of small issues and feature suggestions that I have for improving the feature implementation even further. Does anyone know what the best forum to do that is? Here on the forums? Ideascale? Direct to Avid? Tom Graham maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Here are a few of the small issues that could be improved or implemented:

1. Need to be able to instantiate plugins from the control surface
2. EQ graph and Dynamics graph only work with very few plugins, none of my 3rd party stuff. Dynamics graph doesn't work with Dyn3, only Channel Strip.
3. EQ3 implementation is not perfect, unable to change filter slope for HPF/LPF, can only adjust gain in 0.5db increments (needs to be 0.1).
4. While in EQ graph mode on Master touch module, would be nice to have an easier way to switch knobs to the other bands not visible
5. Need to implement Fader Flip and custom faders for plugin parameters
6. Soft Knobs occasionally become unresponsive when not used for a while and lose contact with Protools. Resolved by paging to another knob set then back again.
7. Need to be able to assign sends to busses from surface. Would also be great to have the option of "Send to new track" from the sends knobs so that you can for example create a reverb send from a channel from the surface and create the aux track with the one command.
8. Expand mode on the knob modules needs to have the ability to create a custom plugin map so that you can put the controls where you want them, i.e. lay out all EQ plugins the same way like a proper parametric eq in vertical bands.
10. Jog Shuttle Wheel still needs to have some functions implemented.

Any questions you guys have fire them my way! :)

I don't have an S6 but I pretty confident you can already do that since it is already implemented on the S5 MC.

Have fun!

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Good choice with the M40-16-5-D. I would do that or the M40-16-9-D.

In regards to your #1 question, I think you can pull up instances of plugins on the master module on the touch screen. Have you looked there?

Here's a question for you since you've had some time to work with it- how do the buttons on the automation module 'feel'? I was trying one out at a local shop, and the buttons seemed a little, um, 'whimpy' (for lack of a better term). In other words, there isn't much of a 'click' to tell your fingers that you've pressed something. What is your take on it?
