1.1 December 2013
1.1.1 April 2014
1.1.2 May 2014
1.2 June 2014
1.3 November 2014
1.4 January 2014 (In Beta soon)
Some v1.4 Highlights
Auto Talkback
Automation Meters
Home Screen paging
EQ and Dyn Expand knob layout
Many additional navigation and workflow preferences

Three of these releases have major feature additions. I can assure you that the people working on S6 do it for the love of audio and mixing and want it to be the best it can be, however they are limits and compromises as to how much and how fast we can fix bugs and add features. Also not every feature has the same priority in each person’s mind, for example automation delta and trim meters were asked for more than flip so were prioritized higher.

As the Product Designer for S6 and System 5 I do look at several forums, our beta sites and process individual feedback from customers. All of this is information is being used as a guide for planning the roadmap along with feedback from Sales and Product Specialists.

I myself have worked over 20 years in Music, Film and TV post so understand the concerns when things don't quite work as they should or as more functionality is desired. The S6 is a big step forward in Pro Mixing’s evolution and will become even more powerful as we continue adding new features over the coming releases in 2015.
Man, I'm trying but I just can't let this go. This is the kind of thing that makes me (and an OCEAN of other people) absolutely HATE Avid. The tone of this post is typical Avid: the problem is their customers - in this case, that our expectations are inappropriate - not Avid. Never Avid. Because there have been several software releases, all of which combined still, a year later, haven't brought the S6 even up to the functionality of its predecessor, and FAR from the expectations set during the rollout and since (sound familiar HDX investors?) - that number of releases is what counts?

This product was obviously released WAY before it was ready. Given Avid's financial situation (not filing federally required financial reports on time and being de-listed from NASDAQ, stock prices that continue to be in the toilet while the rest of the market is soaring), apparently they needed the cash. At their customer's expense. And folks who bought the S6 early expecting an imminent major software release that would bring it at least up to the functionality of the product it is replacing as described in last October's Avid videos etc., are going to have to pay MORE MONEY for that functionality as their support contracts expire. Just for the software updates to bring the product up to the expectations that AVID established, that any honorable company would provide as part of the purchase. But according to this, the REAL problem is Avid's customers. Sorry pal, not buying it.

That's pretty harsh Russ. Eddie is just a developer who is trying to do his job. Venting at him is not going to help in any way with pushing things along. You're not the only person to have a problem with Avid's company policies and the way they roll out products. But venting at the devs who are just trying to do their job and trying to come on here and engage with the community is just counterproductive isn't it?

There are lots of people who cry loudly that Avid is not listening to it's customers or engaging with it's user base, but then when representatives of Avid come on the board and try to engage positively they just get withering replies that probably make them hesitant to try it again. If you want engagement from Avid then engage with them in a positive way.

Eddie for my part, please keep up the posts don't be put off by the negativity. Thanks.

Cheers,

Steve :)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

Ok, yeah, I hear ya. And I get what you're saying. Still, any time I ever hear anything from Avid, no matter who it is, it always has this same tone. No matter what outrageous thing they're doing, no matter what lies they've told and how many people they've screwed, somehow, its always their customer's fault. And this sounded the same to me and I believe it flows from Avid's company culture that made, and keeps things the way they are. The culture of a company that's literally at war with it's own customers and has been forever. They never get it, no matter what. Collapsing financial portfolio, threatened SEC sanctions, miles and miles of lawsuits, being delisted from NASDAQ, customers that literally hate them, yet somehow, it's all their customer's fault. Still, I didn't mean to beat the guy up for doing his job and I know he isn't the problem personally. I guess it sounded that way (if you say so) so I apologize for that but not for reacting to that same, inexcusable implication. I've got a ton of painfully earned hostility about it. More to your point, if representatives from Avid came on the board and told us things like they'd decided they were going to be responsible for all their hype and provide free SW update support until the product is mature - commensurate with its extremely high price - then I wouldn't be hostile. But it's never that, its always excuses and blaming - blaming their customers.

These guys are going to screw those of us who, once again, bought their lies and expected the product they described, for the price we paid. I've heard rumors they're going to go to a subscription service for PT literally holding those who are invested up to our eyeballs financial hostage going foward. With Avid the screwing never ends and I think you can always see why that is in what they say and what they do.

I thin everyone wants to see a more flushed out s6. We where told end of this year and it didn't happen. I really hope we can get more features quickly because we really are missing features that we need to do our jobs faster, better.
