Default relinking problem! wrong sounds playing back..

hi,
oh my... i really have a bad bad error.
i thoght this error was history since version 6.4, but here it is again...

this is what happend:
i edited in a session in 7.3 cs1 with quicktime 7.0 i guess.
than, for some reasons i updated tp 7.4cs2 and quicktime 7.4.
than i opened this session, and pro tools found every file, no missing files or anything. normal.
but than i played the session, and there are wrong sounds!
when i playback, for example, a door, i hear a car. the name from the file which plays the car IS the name from the car, which i have also in the session but on a different place. so i don´t see what was the original name from the file i original had there..

even when i open an older session (from the session backup folder), pro tools relinks to totaly different sounds.

now my luck is, that pro tools is not making this with the whole session, (at least i think so), but just with the edited thinks i edited the last days...

but it makes me feel uncomfortable.. (and i loosed some editing days)

anybody knowing anything?

please,

evs

(my settup: mac pro dual 2,6ghz, 4gb ram, mac os 10.4.9)

Hi EVS

We are having similar problems after upgrading to 7.4 cs1. Session loads fine, when you start playing it plays ok, but then randomly it will play the wrong sound. If you go back over that section again its fine!!!

At first I thought it was a corrupt session, but it seems to be happening on all sessions. I have trashed databases and prefs but it still does it. So taking into account what EVS says, is it something to do with 7.3 sessions working in 7.4.

We have now started to reinstall 7.3.1 cs5 (wich is a pain as we are using Video Satelite and it only works with 7.4) and it seems ok now. My only thought is that the session templates used to make the new sessions were made on 7.3, I will make some new session templates with 7.4 to see if this helps.

Going to the UK Post meeting in London tonight so I will ask around to see if anyone else is having this problem.

Regards

Tony

hi greenwood,
meanwhile i tried to open my backup session on a different system, but also with 7.4, and it was the same error..
so maybe its even a 7.3 error.
i will try to downgrade the next days to see if this helps.

the problem is, pro tools seems to have written those things into the session..

Can anyone supply us with a full session that exhibits this issue, so that we can investigate the cause?

You can send it to us using YouSendIt or similar service - send the link to transfer [at] digidesign [dot] com and reference this thread in the body or subject of the message.
