Default MBOX 3rd gen and powered USB hub

My brand new MBOX works fine on my pcs and on my 2010 MacBook unibody... However it sounded hardcore distorted with playback on my 2007 MacBookPro... After much research I found someone with the same issue on here who fixed it by running the MBOX 3 through a powered USB hub... Needless to say the thing works flawless like that.

Doing a little research on the MacBook pro I come to find out that the USB port power is weak. Now my question is, has anyone ever ran the MBOX through a USB expansion card in the MacBook pros pci slot? I'm hoping to god it will work but don't want to buy one without knowing for sure lol... Any help would be much appreciated!!!
