Default iTunes Conflict

Sorry I'm reposting, the DUC won't let me reply to a previous thread. My problem is actually with iTunes, not Pro Tools. Ever since I upgraded to iTunes v 4.9 it won't open. The guys at Apple suggested that it may be a conficlt with my Digi Hardware, but they wouldn't say more than that. Again, Pro Tools works fine. I have since upgraded to iTunes v 5, same thing. When I go back to v 4.8, it works, but I really need to get v 5 working. I have turned off all my digi hardware and set all sound options to internal, still not luck. Any ideas?

OS 10.3.9
Mix Plus System Running 6.4.1 with 1 888 and a USD
Quicktime 7.0.2

try uninstalling or reverting back to the quicktime 6 whatever. just try it.

theres a reason they make a special uninstaller for it and digi on here said that qt7 is a problem with digi stuff. whether thats at the hardware level, I dont know. did ya run a repair of your disk permissions? try that. also, create another user profile and log into it and see if the problems still there. sorry to hijack your thread with QT7 suggestions buty it's all i have to suggest.

No problem, I appreciate the suggestions. Unfortunately I have tried all of the things you have suggested (except for reverting to QT 6, which I will try now). But I am still wondering if anyone out there ahs experienced any type of conflict with older PT versions and newer iTunes versions. Again PT is fine, only iTunes dosn't open. Thanks.

Yes I have the same problem. I use PT 6.4.1 and OSX 10.3.9 running MIX24 3.
The only way it will work is if, you have the PT appl. open and then you open ITunes (I have ITunes 5). I has to be a bug!

I had the same problem as a result of an ill-advised upgrade to 10.3.9 and QT7. I used the Apple reversion software to go back to QT6.5.2 but the problem persisted, and wouldn't go away until I reverted to a clean install of 10.3.5 and upgraded to 10.3.8. (after having blown away every vestige of Quicktime)

It has to do with the Digi Core Audio Driver which iTunes, Quicktime and the System use to route audio to your Digi hardware. As it turns out, Digidesign have *never* supported 10.3.9, and now that we're well into the 10.4s, likely never will. So your options are to go forward or backward, system-wise.

Having same problem now, after an ill advised attempt to upgrade Quicktime to 7.0.2. Quicktime first was effected, then Itunes, then when I de-evolved to QT 6.5 nothing happened. I re-installed the OS (10.3.9) and Pro Tools 6.4.1 took a dive. Unexpected quits when trying to boot it up. Nothing has worked so far to fix it. I think the post talking about Quicktime/Itunes and the Digi audio core is correct. Going to try a clean install of the OS and PT now. Any suggestions?

Make sure you first get rid of anything Quicktime-related ANYWHERE on your boot disk. As I mentioned before, the reversion software (QT7->6.5.2) doesn't actually get rid of whatever it is that buggers up DCAM. And don't re-install 10.3.9, stop at 10.3.8, as Digidesign doesn't support or recommend 10.3.9. HTH

man this is weird. so I'm in the same exact situation (10.3.9, itunes 5.0.1, PTLE 6.4, and QT 7). here's my report: if you open PTLE first, then open iTunes, iTunes works (even after you close PT). but you cannot open iTunes first.

i'm calling mac tomorrow. I'll update you guys if I learn anything.
