Smart tool icon in PT doesn't change

Hi y'all.
I'm having a frustrating issue with the display icon of the Smart Tool in PT10 - basically it doesn't change when it should.
I can hover over the bottom region of a clip, the icon is an I-beam, or trim tool. when it should be the grabber. I move to the end of a clip to trim it, the icon is still an I-beam, or grabber, or whatever it was last. The fade icon rarely appears when I need it to.

The smart tool works as it should, it just doesn't look like it should, so I don't actually know whether I'm about to trim, create a fade or move the entire clip.

Any hints as to how I should get it looking like it should?

This system is a MacPro with a 002R running PT10.1.1 in OSX 10.6.8 (I'm a little reticent to upgrade to PT10.2 during the middle of a job...)

I'm having pretty much the same issue. The smart tool cursor for whatever reason doesn't always change when I go to different areas of a region as it should. It's especially noticeable when making quick edits. Slow movements over each area do allow the icon to change properly, but when moving quickly, I'm just as likely to create a fade with the "trim" tool as anything.

I'm using:

Pro Tools HD(X) 10.1.0
Mac OS X 10.7.2
Mac Pro 5,1
2 x 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
6GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Yeah, it's frustrating indeed.
I did upgrade to 10.2 for other reasons and there has been no noticeable difference to the way the smart tool is behaving.
I find when it's stuck that if I zoom in slightly it displays properly for a little while, but then starts "sticking" again.

Long shot, but could it be that the track which wouldn't trigger the grabber was in automation view? I just had the same problem but only on one track. Switched the track view back to waveform from the drop down in the track header and the grabber tool cam back reliably.

Sometimes zooming in and out fixes this.
