Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
you mean ..
you want to be able to import and work with 32 bit floating point in the TDM world ... the TDM world uses 48 bit fixed with 56 bit accumulators ... imho ... maybe 64 bit floating point will be stronger than TDM, but my guess is that around the same time we get 64 bit floating point we will also see 64 bit in LE and who knows what new thing for TDM ... a single PCIe card with boat loads of gas on a 96 bit fixed ... additional input / putput would be on daughter cards but the card would have 32 I/O plus an HD3 system's worth of TDM gas, plus much more efficient RTAS and/or a card for VI's so that they would feel like a hardware keyboard ... cheers john welcome back digilogin ... if i am wrong ... sorry

Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
Hi, no I mean I get 32 bit files from the clients all the time and I need to keep PEAK around just to convert 32 bit files to 24 bit one-by-one, opening them all in peak etc. PITA. Would be cool if PT did that for me instead.

Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
I've used Foobar 2000 to batch convert 32 bit files to 24.
How about R8Brain? http://www.voxengo.com/product/r8brain/ I couldn't find any MAC solutions for this, unless iTunes can do it? You could make an Apple Script to automate the process somewhat in Peak.

Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
There's a real problem with this because a floating point audio file can easily be severely clipped when converted to fixed point. It would require some means of reducing, i.e. "normalizing" the level while warning the user of the problem.

Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
I think 32bit for delivering and exchange is complete nonsense. It might be helpful for internal processing but I don't understand why people exchange soundfiles at 32bit.
There are no 32 bit converters no music needs a dynamic range of 32 bit. No room is as quiet so that a 24bit converter would be too noisey. No mic-pre or mic is so quiet that the converter becomes the limitation. Please someone explain to me the benefit of delivering 32bit files for delivery? Even when using a 32bit daw at some point the audio has to go down some aes-cable (24bit max) or go to a d-a-converter (also 24bit max). For what other do I need 32bit other than internal processing? Frank

There is no real "Point", other then, people running Nuendo, will often save, archive, & backup their sessions using the default 32Bit settings. I recently had to Mix an album in Pro-Tools that was recorded in Nuendo, and had to deal with the 32 Bit files - as others have done in here I used Peak, and as Bob mentioned, I reduced each file by -5db in it's 32bit Resolution, before exporting to 24Bit, to avoid potential clipping in the 24 bit world.

Re: Feature request - 32 bit audio import
I'm confused, can someone clarify something on the 32 bit files you are using, does Nuendo save these files in 32bit fixed point or floating point?
