Default Will just a mix core card /882 20 be more powerful than a 001?

Hi,
i've located a used mix core card & also a 882 20bit.
I currently use an 001 with a good bunch of plugins on a g4 466 with an ibm deskstar 40 g drive for my audio only.
My question is wil a mix core card + the 882 alone be more powerful than my 001 system & rtas plugs.
Will i have to get an extra farm card to get the most of my plugs or is the mix core enough to get started with but give me much more than my 001 system as it is?
Your feedback is much appreciated.

you will have MUCH more power with the mix core. Many dedicated chips, in addition to the host stuff you already have. You will love it, go for it.

Hey,

you'll be able to continue using those RTAS plugs IN ADDITION to whatever the core card does for you.

Additionally, mixing functions will now be performed by the TDM chips and not by your host processor- freeing up power for more RTAS plugs.

You may not be able to use a whole ton of TDM plugs with a single core card, but with the addition of the RTAS plugs & the lessening of strain on the host you should be doing much better.

you get what you pay for!

Oh yeah, AND you will have passed a major hurdle- the move from host-based to TDM-based. It opens up a whole new world of expansion possibilities.

No comparison in functionality. Get into it if you can.

I have a SCSI drive hooked up to my ATTO card and a 100 gig firewire drive. So far I've had no problems with either.

I would avoid scsi and go firewire. I use
a 100 gig ($400) from firewiredepot.com and
have yet to pile enough edits across 40 plus tracks to get so much as a wimper of glitch from this drive. I would assume the firewire port of a 466 is the same as a Ti/667? Thus this one drive will be your best bet. What would you choose to do
if you knew you could not fail?

Ok.
But i can only really afford a mix core card & the 882/20 which will go into my g4 466 with one extra 40 g drive fitted for audio.
Will this definetly be up & running better than my 001 or will i have to purchase another scsi drive/atto card to get the mix core working properly?
The reason i ask this is that i was told a few months back that you need a minimum of 2 extra hard drives with a tdm system because it likes to split the audio up on 2 drives so that playback is easier to read back???is this true?
Thanks again for your feedback i should be arriving at the city of tdm very soon.
