Choose what version of Pro Tools you want to try, regular or HD and fill out your info. Attachment 2877 That will take you to the page where you enter your iLOK ID The ID is NOT the serial number printed on the iLok key, it is the NAME of your iLok account that you setup BEFORE you started this process. Attachment 2878 When you hit Submit, Avid transfers a 30-day license to your iLok account and takes you to the Download page for Pro Tools. Choose the correct version, Windows or OSX (PC or Mac) and download. If you want to try the bundled plugins that come with Pro Tools, download that as well. Attachment 2879 Once you get everything installed you will need to move the iLok license from your iLok account on to your actual iLok key using the iLok License Manager. You can see me doing just this in the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WADEKsvVjfU

Re: Protools free trial. Trouble activating
Ok, so you can actually download and install everything getting an iLok account, just not run without the key with license on.
Thank you for your extensive explanation. I have a Avid unopened package on my table with an iLok, but will await the final outcome of new policy regarding updates having to repurchase new license if not on support plan for year. With a 30 day return policy I will return it if rumours are true - you scare me off. I also saw at iLok page they charge for many things regarding licenses. $50 to transfer or something. That certainly doesn't help either. Buying Avid stuff you suddenly are dependent on two vendors. |

Feel free to read the FAQ on the new licencing system http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...2014-Offer-FAQ And you don't have to pay any kind of transfer fee on iLok unless you are selling a used license to a third-party (think eBay). You will not have to pay iLok nor Avid anything for them to deposit a license in your account when you purchase Pro Tools.

Re: Protools free trial. Trouble activating
Thank you again.
I understand that you can keep using PT if having perpetual license. What worries me is that re-entrance cost if in a few years want an upgrade? FAQ say zilch about this. Tony(something) said it might be something like MediaComposer. So I looked at that FAQ - there it says clearly you have to buy a new license. Upgrade cost on software usually are withing 40-50% of new purchase. So re-entering a support plan would be similar to that. But I will await FAQ for PT to be filled in with exact info. What you say about Ilok - is that in written terms/agreement with you and iLok - no annual charges for keeping an iLok account or something - EVER? This new announcement of yours really stir up many questions. Sorry to be PITA, but you really look ahead for many years spending this kind of money and want it to be predictable what you are in for. You wouldn't have anything like Waves that let you use any flash drive for storing licenses? |

Protools free trial. Trouble activating
"... announcement of yours..." You do realize you are not talking to Avid/an Avid employee. The moderators here are fellow users who volunteer to help out on DUC. The many questions being asked about licensing changes, including your questions, need answers from Avid.

Re: Protools free trial. Trouble activating
Sorry, I missed your question about iLok.
I believe this FAQ will answer your question about any fees with an iLok account https://www.ilok.com/#!faq There are no fees for simply having an iLok account and using an iLok. If you want ZDT, then there is a fee for that service and if you transfer licenses to another account, there is a fee for that service. I've had an iLok for 7 or 8 years now and I have never directly paid them anything. Now if I want ZDT insurance, that would cost. Or if I sold a license to someone else and transferred it to their account, then I would pay a fee for that.

Re: Protools free trial. Trouble activating
That would be good, as would Avid employees posting on DUC... a place they pointed people at to get details of these change. Now they appear to be in hiding.

Tony, after a week of silence threw in: - media composer .... - ... soon... - ....soon... Seems the announcement was very premature. To look on the bright side - maybe they are listening in to reactions... - yeah, right... |
