Default sd2 files corrupt

Now we've got sound designer 2 file support back with PT 2020.9.0 ( why did they get rid of it ) i've converted some old sd2 files from disc, which worked fine.

However i have a lot of sessions stored on a cloud backup service, and when i download them, all the sd2 files are corrupted. I've read this is a header problem, presumably because the cloud system is Windows based.

Anyone got any ideas of how to salvage them?
Thanks

I've had problems w/SD2 files a couple of times. I solved it by importing them into a audio application like Amadeus Pro, which has a "Import raw audio" function. There are other free audio apps that have this. All you need to do is tell the app the sample rate and bit depth before the import, or guess, until you get it right. It's like a "manual" import.

i'm actually trying to fix the files so they will open seamlessly in protools. I don't want to convert them to other formats in another app because relinking them to a protools session is a nightmare.

Protools will now automatically open an old session and convert sd2 to whatever you like....if the files aren't corrupted.

I tried it yesterday with a Session from 2004 but it was reporting the Session was created in an earlier version of Pro Tools and wouldn't open. I just tried it again and remembered to put the .PTS extension on the Session file and it opened right up

Hopefully this will save me from booting the old Pro Tools 10 drive now?!

All cloud systems and various non-Mac format storage will hose SD2 files. Apple officially stopped supporting them with System 8!

Yep. Missing resource fork is a problem there. You can fix it later if you know what you are doing, but chances are you don't if you have lost it to begin with

Soundhack the headers one at a time on a 32-bit MacOS, SD2Wav them to wav on a PC, or follow the tips here:

There's an app called 'SD2 fixer' I've had some success with on Mac.
Sometimes you still have to manually add the .sd2 extension.

thanks everyone, SD2 fixer works really well, lets me do batch fixes, whereas Soundhack doesn't ( i think ).
