Default PT 10: "Can't get audio from the drive fast enough"

Ok, so all of a sudden this message keeps popping up:

DAE can't get audio from the drive(s) fast enough. Your drive may be too slow or fragmented, or a firewire drive could be having trouble due to the extra firewire bandwith or CPU load (-9073)

The session played back fine before. Rebooting sometimes solves the issue, sometimes not so much.

PT 10 HD 2 system, 192 voices, audio play back from a Lacie d2 FW800 disk, movie plays back from internal disk. Computer is on LAN.

2 x 2.4 GHz Quad, 16 GB Ram.

What version of OSX are you running? Snow Leopard has given me endless firewire issues and i've kind of found a fix for it. Did you upgrade your operating system when moving up to PT 10?

Are overviews being calculated in the task manager?

Can i suggest you try the following method:

I too was having endless firewire buffer trouble on my Mac Pro (Quad Xeon) with PT10LE and my MBox3 Pro, as well as with streaming audio from firewire 800 drives until i stumbled along this timely fix at the apple discussion forums.

I'm running 10.6.8 as well and apparently there are still issues with the Firewire kext's, but they show up for some users and not for others (I think it might be machine dependent as i didn't need to fix for the same setup on my MBP, which is newer).

You can download the older Leopard firewire kext's (10.5.6) from my iDisk here
https://files.me.com/ayushahuja/6eewtw

These files need to replace the files found in Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions

Please backup your 10.6.8 kext files before you replace them incase something drastic happens (Also note that the 10.6.8. extensions folder doesn't have a file called FireWireStorageDeviceSpecifics.kext, so there are only 5 files to backup)

And then reboot, and try running your session again :)

I hope this helps, I haven't had a single 'drive slow' or 'buffer underrun' error since (fingers crossed, almost 2 months now).

Yush

Yush

I did what you suggested. As a result, the FW disks cannot be found anymore. I replaced your kext files with the ones I backuped, the problem remains. Guess it broke the FW bus.

Hey Mr. Armadillo,

I'm sorry for causing such trouble!

After you replace the kext files, I believe you need to (for either leopard or SL versions):

1) repair disk permissions 2)and then reboot.

Hopefully that might fix it.

Yush

Thanks! That did the trick. However, it didn't solve the "not fast enough" error.
