If you upgrade Now you get the next updates for free over the next 12 months as long as you keep up to date with your annual plan. So why risk it if you can do the $999 today and get a year free upgrades and updates.

does it ever expire if i do it only for a year. if i even did do i have to keep paying at this point seeing hdx getting cheaper and the new interfaces i wouldnt be upgrading to the next platform for a loooong time

After 1 year you can stop paying and then you will have a perpetual license.

13 is just a number.

The huge diference from the past to the "new" future about updates and upgrades, were that before, the updates were almost bug fixes and little new features. Now there's a lot of bug fixes and more features than before.

Take sometime to read the What's new since 12.0 till now.
