I've been digging around in the MAC forum just to see how MAC PT users are doing with their boxes. I found a posting which coincidently was just revitalised today but dates back to late summer last year.

I can't compare the results posted since the variables of the test are quite different. The MAC test creates 24 tracks with a 4B-EQ then attempts to add effects D-Verbs (usually no more than 6 or 7) and that's it.

Interestingly, Eric Day posted a remark in that thread and his test is to load 24 tracks with 5 x 4B-EQ's on each track (120 plugins). Maybe you "real world" guys should give Eric **** too since this is how he tests PT for us.

I am using the lightpipe with an alesis AI3 right now. http://alesis.com/products/ai3/ that only gives me 8 inputs. 8 analog + 8 lightpipe + 2 s/pdif = 18. O.K. Is there something you're not telling me? I know I'm cluttering this post but I MUST know how!

No, you've got it right. There are only 18 inputs, but you can record 24 tracks... an interesting conundrum.

LOL, I wonder if that was simply a physical limitation or a design oversite.

Arguably, the 001 was probably not slated for live 24 track recording (studio or otherwise). Comments Digi?

Again, the 24 track test is to push the MOBO+CPU not to determine any weaknesss in PT or to start dissing PT "...because so and so can run more tracks...". The ultimate goal being to determine which MOBO+CPU combo gives the best results under these conditions.
