Cool Lost

I have pro tools M Powered 8-ver8.0.5,profire 610, imac 10.6.6. I have six songs recorded in series across 10 tracks. I want to take one song and put it in a new session. I highlighted all the tracks in the song and attempted to bounce the song to disk. did not work. I am a complete rookie. How can I move one song to separate session? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I guess you are saying you tried to record 6 seperate songs in one file session with multiple tracks?(ie bass, drums, kick) Bounce to disk creates a stereo mix so its a little more complicated to move the files.

Well you could bounce you tracks to disk individually and then import them seperatly into the new session. This will be alot of work but is doable. You could also just import the exhisting tracks individually to another session and then delete what is not needed.

Personally if all the audio is done, I would just keep them all on the same session and mix them using automation. Learn how to automate your volume, panning, effects ect....
Then once they are mixed just highlight the song data and bounce to disk.

Thanks for your help tribedescribe, any suggestions of some good, easy to understand teaching aids? books, tutorials, etc. I find a lot of tutorials say what to do but not how. Seems like I have to sift through 20 items to find a clue that leads to 20 more. In spite of, or maybe because of the learning curve I'm still having a ball. Thanks again

Use 'save copy as' on the original session 6 times...rename each session one of the 6 songs. Go into each of these sessions and delete everything except the named song for that session, select all the remaining tracks and move them back to the start of each session.

Crusty,

This book is my bible...it's well written, easy to follow, has tons of illustrations, and is a great overview. Most of the other "course books" out there are meant to suck you into buyings multiple volumes or to be used as a textbook in a classroom environment. This book rocks. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tools-Igni...9280363&sr=8-1
The books says for LE but practically everything applies for M-powered. There is also an updated version by the same author for PT9 if you end up with that version along the way.

I used Groove3's Pro Tools Explained series. It's a beginner - intermediate set of videos. Was really inexpensive too! Has helped me out a lot.
