Clipped waveform drawings when importing "Hot" 32bitF file
First, Pro Tools is (and has been for some time) capable of importing and playing 32 bit float files.
Next, as I discuss in this other thread (http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=407796) those 32 bitF files can have a reference level above 0db, which actually is not a problem if it stays under +20 dBs (quite a healthy headroom in the Pro tools console!) However it appears that the waveform graphics in Pro tools are not floating point since the waveform is clipped, whereas the audio is OK. I imagine that higher resolution graphics could have costly CPU overhead, but the present situation is a bit of a problem, since what you see is NOT what you get ! Of course you can attenuate with clip gain the audio below the 0dB mark, and then consolidate, and so get a nice unclipped waveform ! I am wondering if higher resolution graphics are under way ? Apart from that the latest Pro Tools versions are great, moving plugins around while playing without huge gaps in audio playing is fantastic ! Thanks, Mark
