[QUOTE=simon.a.billington;2544371]... Which has got to hurt those who put time and effort into mastering Reason’s DAW capabilities.[QUOTE]

Well, it'll still have DAW capability for those who want to continue to use it as such. But, it does mean, I think, that going forward, less will be put towards improving DAW capabilities and more on improving it as a plugin or VI.

I would agree. But they seem to be stumbling over their own intentions. Since the release of 9.5 and VST hosting, many have reached out to the P-heads requesting that hosting be allowed with Reason in slave mode...the way most of us PT users employ Reason. Several here indicated they would jump on the upgrade if that happened. It never did. Now, Rewire is no longer a consideration. So why not release it as AAX as well as AU and VST, and allow for VST hosing in it? It would increase their potential market ten fold, maybe more.

Reason's rack is very unique in how easy it is to structure and and create multi-layered patches. I've said repeatedly that if they allowed VST hosting in the rack with Reason in slave mode via Rewire (or now in the Rack version of Reason as AAX, for example), it would rival any other VI on the market. Heck, it would rival just about any other channel strip or multiple fx host.

Perhaps there is a bit of indecision on their part which comes across as stumbling. I understand though, you put a lot of time and energy into something, like it’s multitrack DAW capabilities and you might get a bit precious about it. That can make it a tough call.

They’ve been around a long time, though, and there would’ve been a demand for a more modern host style integration for quite a number of years now, this move has taken an unusual amount of time to finally implement. Even if they were a bit “precious”

Regarding Blue Cat: we don't have an AAX version of Reason Rack Plugin, as you know, and we don't support using the VST3 plugin via bridge plugins like Blue Cat, so we can't guarantee that it will work at this point.

We hear your feedback though and when we've made a decision on AAX, you'll hear about that. :) Thanks!
Sorry Stefan, your post needed to be approved.

Hi all, Stefan is here to answer your questions.

Stefan - Thank you for being on here. The main requests we have from Reason at this point are to make the new format AAX so we can use the Reason rack, as well as the other new plugins without having to host them in a 3rd party VST host. Secondly, when you do make Reason AAX, please, please, allow VST hosting in the rack. Many of us having been asking for that since Reason 9.5 allowed VST hosting, but not in slave mode. I suspect there are many Pro Tools users who would upgrade to the new Reason if these features were available.

AU version is out.

Let’s see how long it takes to make a decision re: AAX support.

I know this is going to sound snippy and sarcastic but I'll say in the words of Steven Slate: 'soon'.
