2021.3 constant hangs

I recorded a 5 minute track on 128, then again on 64 and no hangs.

well i am narrowing it down more ... if i go to 32 samples which is cool i won't have any hangs unless i record arm any audio track ....

Becharax this is an issue I've been dealing with since switching to my Apollo X8 a year and a half ago. Arming tracks will cause system hangs at 64 samples and below.

Self made problems guys. I very seldom have a reason to go below 128 buffer (@48k) which is/was the default playback buffer on HD systems. It is also typical latency of digital mixing boards used on stage. If that latency would be a problem, there would not be any live gigs mixed or monitored on digital consoles.

I even have great success using 256 buffer if needed. I have tested these latencies extensively for two decades already. 512 will be unusable for anyone, 256 is usable for most.

Though with modern systems it beats me why end user could just not have a slider of how many samples is needed. I would probably set it to 350 which is a real world DSP latency of typical full TDM mix, only TDM plugins included. And those ancient TDM systems were praised "fast".

I do large orchestral tracking and OD sessions at 128k buffer on HDX systems all the time. No complaints from the musicians about latency in the cues. Go to 256 though and you will have complaints or just people playing out of time.

Well I never complained about 128 :) It runs smoothly for me and even with vocal tracking, Guitar Tracking I am absolutely fine ... it just beats me as to the point where I can go lower to 32 samples on Logic without a glitch and not being able to do so on Pro Tools no more no less :)

That's all well and good, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a regression. Whether or not you find it necessary or useful, the fact remains: On 2020.12, I can track at 64 samples with 99.5% stability (estimated, obviously). On the exact same system, 2021.3 freezes almost immediately, even when I'm NOT tracking.

I have rolled back to 2020.12 and again can track at 64 samples, 24/48 session. Recorded about 8 hours over the last two days, no hangs or freezes on 2020.12. (Also, 2020.11, 2020.5, 2020.3 worked well with these settings... It's worked well enough in the past that I'd "set it and forget it" when tracking, so latency just was never an issue.)

Literally nothing else has changed about my system. This indicates that something in 2021.3 has broken in comparison to 2020.12.
