That's more of a Windows waste of space, rather than a Pro Tools waste of space. I can't think of any multi-windowed application in Windows that would work well in a true full screen environment (Photoshop, Flash, etc). A full screened application would still end up being inside its own environment, and would make switching between applications a royal PITA.

I keep hearing that it is a windows limitation but if that is true then how does Skootch get around it? It might take a little extra work but it can be done.

Again, not a limitation of Windows, but a UI design choice. For examples of fullscreen modes look at IE 9 or Excel.

Both MS applications.

I'm not saying it "can't" be done... but I imagine it's not as simple as shrinking the menu bars. When an app has been functioning in an OS the same way for about a decade, some of these things can be so far embedded into the code that it takes a lot more work than most realize.

That being said... PT10 better have some serious rewrites under the hood.

Indeed they are both MS applications, but equally Photoshop has a fullscreen mode.

When you say "so far embedded into the code...", bear in mind the fact that window creation is fundamental, windows are created only a comparatively few times during a run of an app, and I'm guessing that the code exists only in a few places. Code examples for writing fullscreen windows abound if you want to find them (I just did a quick search and found at least 3 code fragments).

This isn't a forum about application development, but as in any application development process, for something to be done by an application, somebody has to want it to be done, sobeody has to design the application to do it, and somebody has to make it so. I guess it's not a high priority.

Indeed.

I gather there are far more important details in the works right now (aka offline bounce & 64 bit) that take priority.

I can see how those might take precedence!

REAPER has full screen mode, 64 bit and offline bounce.
It's doable.

I just can't see how a window tweak can be so difficult. Hire a MS consultant... it ain't rocket science. Obviously isn't a problem on the Mac version, so please get it done Avid.
