Default How do I get rid of the Y shortcut?

I accidentally press Y when I want to zoom in with r maybe ten times a day.
The result is that what I was editing gets moved to the start of my session. Usually not where i want it to be...

How do I disable the key as a shortcut, but retain it when typing names on regions and tracks?

Any ideas?

ps. I know of 1-5 shorcuts to zoom. Please don´t tell me to use those instead. They never fit how much I want to magnify. Neither do I like e "zoom to region".

You can't. You'll just have to get better at pressing T.

FWIW, you can customize what zoom level 1-5 does.

It was better with the old keyboard. I was more precise when the keys were more elevated. I guess I´m getting old, preferring the olden ways...

laki:
I didn´t know, but I never know precisely how much I zoom in, so having a pre set level isn´t really working for me.

I know the Mac OS has some features for reassigning keys, and Iwas hoping someone had figured out how to achieve what I need with that.

But you have 5 preset levels. Start close and go closer... ;-)

I have no idea if this will work on the Y key - but I have successfully replaced existent Pro Tools shortcuts - but only a couple times - when I've added my own shortcuts with the Mac/System Prefs/Add shortcuts method.

So I suppose you could try adding a shortcut for that key that didn't interrupt your workflow, (no dialogue box or action required on your part).

Use QuicKeys and remap the Y key (you'll need to disable the macro when you want to type a Y)

I never use R-T anymore. Scroll wheel zooming all the way.
I use a magic mouse and its very easy to zoom both timeline and waveform quick.

Just press alt/option and scroll...
If you dont have a magic mouse add shift to zoom the waveform..

I did the same thing for the dreaded 'N' key, now it throws up a message that says 'slow down iddy-it!'. When I need to type words in the dialogue boxes, I just hold down the shift key, and it types everything in caps. I also have [control-x] programmed to:

1. select all
2. 'Title Case'
3. Return

I hit this after typing into the dialogue boxes. Works great, and becomes second nature after a few days.

I also programmed the 'Y' key to decrease track size, and the 'U' key to increase track size. 'Q' and 'W' decrease/increase waveform height. So, my 'Q' through 'U' keys take care of most of my track/waveform viewing with my fingers. Quickeys kicks ass!
