Default Manual audio-to-midi with Instrument tracks

No biggie, but I couldn't get the workflow described below to work with instrument tracks.

I have recently recorded a live band where the drummer only had a snare that sounded very bad, so I've started to replace/enhance this snare with samples.

So, I've set up a stereo instrument track with DFHS directly below the snare track (top mic).

1) I created a single note in the instrument track at D1, and copied this note into the clipboard.

2) Selected the snare track and the DFHS track and grouped them.

3) Clicked with the Selector tool at the beginning of the snare track, and tabbed (to transient) to the first hit.

4) Paste.

However, nothing gets pasted in the instrument track. So I tried the exact same procedure with the snare track and a regular midi track, and then it worked.

Why is this?

Even if that did work, that's a lot of pasting. Try using SoundReplacer, it will replace all of your badly recorded snare hits with a snare sample of your choosing all in one pass.

Thanks.

I have SoundReplacer, and I don't like it that much. And it's far too limiting when it comes to the folk/country genre I'm working on now.

I need to use DFHS that has an amazing sample pool, wrapped into a nice GUI and sounds great.

And the fact that the rest of the kit bleeds into the snare top mic makes it difficult to depend on automatic threshold-based triggering.

It takes a while to do it manually, but it's worth it. I set the numeric keypad to shuttle mode so that I can audition easily when I want to hear the "guide track".

It takes a while, but the end result is great. But it should also work with an instrument track, yes?
