Default DELL workstations for 001

Hello to the forum and all fellow digidesign users!
I purchased a Digidesign 001 about a year ago and have not used it (was having too much fun on HD system at work But now I want to get it running and unfortunately my current pc wont support it. I want to buy a Dell workstation to use with the 001 as I have bought from dell before and can get company discounts etc....

Questions:

I know I have ignore the chipset guidelines, but would any of these work with the 001 -
DELL PRECISION
470 - Intel E7525 chipset
380 - Intel 955X chipset
650 - Intel E7505 chipset
670 - Intel E7525 chipset
(or other discontinued systems)

The compatability notes say that xeon and p4 processors work singularly. Does anyone know if Dual Xeon processors or Dual core p4's will also work?

Thanks for you patience and help in advance.
Cheers G

The 002 works with the 955x chipset in the 380. Anyone tried this with the 001, or using dual xeons? Cheers G

Rmemember that 001 doesn't support software that will allow for increased performance with dual core processors. If you have a 001 your best bet is to keep your costs low and use something you know will absolutely work. Dells and 001s are a complex relationship and it is chipset dependent. Stick with the chipsets that Digi has listed in the compatibility docs when using Intel processors. Your better off custom making your own computer for the 001 or having someone build one for you.

If you're happy to accept not having the very latest system, I bet these days you could put together a very nice PC + 001 very very cheaply. I'd be curious to know just how cheap someone can go to get a spec we'd have all been envious of only a couple of years ago.

Man, this is a geeky post!
