That is quite an update.
Presonus did much more that that with the S1 Pro 6.5 update. It added Linux support, a new universal exchange system (along with Bigwig) and about 100 other items large and small. And this was a point upgrade.

That's a bite into everyone really. Never tried it. Looks good, I hear good things about it. Don't know if it would be something I'd use, but maybe.

It seems way ahead of Logic and Cubase though. 400hundy might be a little much for an experiment.

I'm waiting to see the full functionality of what's coming. Hopefully.
Small clarification, official releasedate is "we don't know", unofficial release date is "probably january but could be sooner, could be later" which I then translated as Q1. Not necessarily 2024.3.

"Only speaker placement" is about which settings you can adjust in the renderer compared to the standalone. The renderer itself works the same, taking care of all the beds and objects.

Studio One's strength is that its programming is "recent" compared to dinosaurs like PT and Cubase-Nuendo. It's more manageable. But I still can't get used to its interface. It needs skins.

I tried to get into Studio One. It's good software but like you I didn't gel with it. I guess what I want most is Pro Tools, just re-written from the ground up with a modern, more extensible codebase. That should be trivially easy to accomplish, right?

Right??

Thank you for the heads up on this. I have yet to do any atmos stuff but it’s probably a good thing to pick up anyway.

Is it possible?

You get get S1 Pro perp license with a cross grade discount for about $200. That gets you free updates and support until the next major version is released (e.g., v 6.x to v 7.0). In the past Presonus releases major versions about every two years or so. Version 6 was released one year ago.

Anything is possible. Maybe it will reach a point where it's necessary. Maybe it's part of a long term roadmap. Maybe there are voices internally calling for an overhaul but it would take ages and lots of expensive manpower to replicate the existing functionality. In the meantime they apparently want to advertise new features to attract a broader clientele and keep up with industry developments. You'd have to convince the people holding the purse strings that they would see return on investment.

I'm not a software engineer and these are not educated guesses, just my opinions and hunches. Right now what I observe is that superficially small tweaks to the application have far reaching and unpredictable consequences for stability. And as much as we all have a personal wishlist of new features, most important is that our professional tool stay reliable. Bit of a double bind.
