2023.9 is here and STILL no fix to Bug PT-263050

I can't upgrade without this bug being fixed first.
I'm stuck on 2019.12
It's coming up to 4-YEARS now and it still has not been fixed

As a side note, you won't be able to drop files in from Windows Explorer if opening PT with Run as Administer enabled.
Not running as Admin allows you to drag directly from Explorer.

Thanks, but it's not a track width issue, nor Run as Administrator related. This is standard dragging from the clip bin to appropriate tracks. Just not working. Can anybody with Windows and 2023.9 confirm this is or isn't happening on thieir system?

How can you expect them to fix long-standing bugs when they are busy adding bloatware like Sketch?

The Create New dialog, with the tabs for Session or Sketch is awful!! So many of us will really never use it, and it's being thrust into the UI like it's some kind of central feature for Pro Tools!

Avid, make Skecth a plug in or a Preference so I can make it go away! I already have GarageBand

Agreed. The Create New dialog is now... distracting. Every time.

Hi Sean,

I've recently dragged audio files to existing tracks from the clip bin without any issues so far.
To be specific, a mono half of a stereo file to a mono track.
Haven't tried a stereo or single mono file yet.
But did drag quite a few clips for editing without experiencing any odd behavior on W10 22H2.

Not sure if it's a graphics issue or a permissions issue on your drive.
In the case of the latter, you usually get a notification if something is read only.
But I don't doubt it might be a bug specific to your system.

After the clip disappears, does horizontal zooming or resizing the window make it reappear?

If we don't hear from anyone else on the issue maybe I can do some tests when I have time.
Just simple dragging of audio files to a track right? I'll try MIDI files too.
Anything else about the way the session is configured?

User PTUserBM effectively provided the workaround needed already in this thread but people are missing his post.

There are comments about HEAT plugins not loading in this thread, or other non-specific comments about HEAT problems (which lets guess mean the HEAT plugin is not loading ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) in some other threads. (And of I hope everybody seeing this problem already tried trashed prefs.)

The problem being see are *not* caused by HEAT it is caused by the new Pro Tools Sketch plugin which is the next plugin loading after HEAT. You can remove the Sketch plugin as a temporary work around, but read on...

In Pro Tools 2023.9 Pro Tools Sketch.aaxplugin is a newly added systems plugin that in these cases will be loading next after HEAT.aaxplugin. And is the reason that people are confused and think HEAT has a problem.

On a Mac move the Pro Tools Sketch.aaxplugin system plugin embedded in the app bundle: /Applications/Pro Tools.app/Contents/PlugIns/System Plug-Ins to any other location.

On Windows move Pro Tools Sketch.aaxplugin out of C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\System Plug-Ins to any other location.

Start Pro tools and the problem should be gone.

Once this problem is understood and fixed or there is a different work around you'll be able to move the Sketch plugin back.

BTW removing the Pro Tools Sketch.aaxplugin system plugin does not change anything in Pro Tools itself, you'll still see dialog panels and menu items about Sketch but you just won't be able to launch Sketch. And if you try you will typically get an error with message "An unexpected Sketch error occured. Error Code = 6."

This might be an example of how these long threads about some general topic like a new product release can break down and at some point it may be better to start a separate thread for a very specific issue. Folks do not always read through all the posts in a long thread and might just add yet another post to the end of the thread saying they have a problem. And little useful discussion happens. I've created a new thread here: https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=425990 with at least a title that might help folks find help. Maybe if there is a mod who is super eager they could merge all the related posts but yes it's a hassle to find and move them.

Running 2010 3.46 Mac Pro 5,1 with Monterey.

No major issues so far. Heat is fine sketch is fine as is plug-in reorder.
