Default Questions about audio fidelity after processing...

I just had a session last night and the producer and myself noticed two things that seemed odd to us.

I took a few stereo mixes of a song, and pieced them together into a final version. After doing so, the mix we used for the intro was slightly quieter than the mix we used for the first verse. We used Audiosuite "Gain" to increase the volume of the intro region by only +0.2dB to get it to match the verse. After doing so we thought the Intro Region sounded different. So we started to A/B them using Undo/Redo. Applying any type of gain change made the higher frequencies sound duller than the original. Has anyone else noticed this? the Producer and I could pick out which one was the gain adjusted version every time because the high frequencies weren't as crisp and clear.

Second, after our edits were done I used consolidate to turn the whole song into one file. After doing this the whole song was about 0.5dB quieter than before I consolidated. I kept using the Undo/Redo to compare between the two and by adjusting the volume slider it seemed as though adding .5dB to the consolidated track made it sound like the original edited version. Has anyone noticed this? I also thought I could hear another slight loss of High Freq. info but it wasnt' as noticeable as the when I adjusted the "Gain".

Is there a technical explanation for why all of this is happening?

I'm nervous that when this project goes to mastering, the tracks I edited will sound noticeably duller than the tracks the producer didn't have me edit.

I mean, theoretically none of this should happen. especially the consolidate function, is consolidate resampling or in some other way processing the audio? And to have the Gain function suck out the high end is really weird.

This session was on an HD|1, G4 1GHz, 192IO, OSX, PT 6.0.1 and the session was at 88.2KHz/24-bit.

Thanks in Advance,

-OGK
