cannot select channels on 003 rack +
I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem...
When I press any one of the channel buttons, for example to give phantom power, pad or hpf to that channel, nothing is happening. The buttons should light up when I select a channel, but they are not working. This just started happening, I've had the unit for about a year with no major problems. protools runs fine (running 8.0) and the buttons on the right side work (mono, mute, alt cr, aux in, 3/4, 7/8). Any ideas for me? I tried updating the firmware which didn't change anything. I tried a power cycle as well. Thanks for any advice! Re: cannot select channels on 003 rack +
Thanks for your response, still trying to sort this out.
As far as I can tell, the problem is the Input Channel Select Switches, and the Line DI Pad 48v HPF section. The Monitor Section and Status Indicators seem to light up and work properly. Is it possible that I could have damaged the channel path somehow by using an external preamp (UA710, UAsolo, Brick)? While running recent sessions with these I noticed no problems. Also worth noting is I've been switching between hard drives, laptops, and interfaces recently (mbox and presonus firebox). I've been putting a lot of mileage on the 003r+ (mostly in my home studio) and have had no major issues until this one. Thanks for any advice! I really need this unit for my freelance work... ----- Just wanted to add, I have upgraded to pro tools 8.0.4, and have deleted my preferences. the other macbook pro that I use with this 003 rack + is running pro tools 9. thanks... |

Re: cannot select channels on 003 rack +
I would not expect the external preamps to have caused this, but I would be suspicious that maybe a connector has come loose from the circuit board with all those switches. I would pop the top and have a look Especially after another DUC report of many new Mbox units shipping with a dropped connector inside. Unfortunately, all these boxes are built in China(fortunately for the price part anyway) and QC over there is not so good

Re: cannot select channels on 003 rack +
Thanks again for your input. I opened up the top and without being an expert on such things, I didnt see anything out of the ordinary... no loose or detatched wires, no burn marks, etc.
I'm still looking for any help I can get on this. I might cry if it's an expensive fix Any other thoughts? Thanks again! |

Re: cannot select channels on 003 rack +
Its time to contact your dealer or tech support/customer service. Since this is a users conference, the help you need won't be found here

Re: cannot select channels on 003 rack +
Thanks albee1952, I appreciate your suggestions.
well, in case there's a glimmer of hope out there, I thought I'd post an update... forked out the $40 for the avid support phone call, and they had me update the firmware again, with the same results - still no power in the input select areas. As a test, I plugged in a dynamic mic and gave it some gain, and I see/hear signal in pro tools... Just cant select the channel to give it phantom or line/di, hpf, pad, etc. The pad didn't seem to work with the dynamic mic. haven't tried giving a condensor phantom... After the first hour-long call, I'm on hold another 30 min so far waiting to talk to someone in the repair dept to set up a repair... So I figure I'd give another shout out to see if anyone has any ideas for me before I shell out $$$ for shipping and repairs, etc... Anyone?? Thanks for looking! |
