I use a Mac Mini for personal basic use like internet surfing and work stuff but not recording or anything. It is VERY quiet and when it's full board running you can of course hear the fan quite well but it's as loud as a lap top. I love my Mac Mini and even though it's the older 1.42 GHz I plan to get the newest version and upgrade to at least 2 gigs of ram, possibly even 4 if it will support it.

Hi there, I use a mac mini as my main system for recording and i absolutley love it . I've never had any problems mines is the earlier 2009 model (the one before the one just released). I run PT 8LE alonf with Reason 4 and it handles it great and it can take very large sessions e.g. multiple Instrument tracks running rewire multiple audio tracks and several plug ins and still run smooth.

As for the fan I actualy barely ever hear it It is a nice little machine

I have the early 09 2.0ghz with 4mb of memory running ptle 8.01, and upgraded HD to 7200rpm(internal) and external WD and it,s so quiet that I don't even hear it at all, and it sits under my desk just to the right of my right leg.

Using a 1.5GHz Core Solo (early 2006) Mac mini with Pro Tools Essential (my bundle is "Vocal Studio") and the fan is very quiet on mine.

I just got a new, faster one with more RAM etc. I think it works great, but I'm not a wildly complex user. I prefer to keep the screen and computer separate so as to have an easy upgrade path.
