Either sample rate will work fine. The thing you want most is to record at 24 bit which gives much better headroom so you don't have to run your input levels quite as hot. When you BOUNCE TO DISK, you can use a dither plugin to convert to 16 bit, or bounce at 24 bit and import the bounced audio to a new session for mastering. This is where I trim the ends of the file and add a fadeout if needed, and put the dither plug(always in the last insert point). 48K has slightly better high frequency extension but requires sample rate conversion if you are going to CD(which is 44.1K and 16 bit only). Do a search for "dither" as it has been explained very well other places on the DUC.

From what I've read, most professionals record audio for CD at 44.1K, and audio for video at 48K. Always 24-bit.
