Help! Error 9128 "Your\'e running out of CPU power. Take out some plugins to free..."
I keep running into this error. I did not run into it before I went to Win xp (except when I was REALLY taxing the system) But now, with just one or two plugins, it is giving me this error a lot. I am running a quicktime file in the session (and yes, I have turned the QT track to "Blocks) But it happens even when I am not playing the QT file. I have tried turning everything that is running in the background off--to no avail. My buffer is set to 1024. any suggestions?
I have a P3 800Mhz, 256 RAM, win xp--with audio and video coming off a seperate drive from the system drive thanks! |

I know it's obvious but you need a faster system.

yeah, I know, but why was I not getting these errors before when I was on win 98. I'm thinking maybe I don't have all my settings right (in iether xp or in PT when I re-installed it)--any suggestions?

Re: Help! Error 9128 "Your\'e running out of CPU power. Take out some plugins to free..."
Yeah, I'm getting that error alot too since moving from Win98 to XP Pro. It sucks because I got way more plugins in Win98. I'm using a Pentium 3 1ghz in my machine. One thing I did was switch the buffer size hit play wait and the error pops up, then switch it again and hit play and it usually works. Pretty sad though, because I have almost no RTAS plugs running in my session I copied virtually everything over to Audiosuite and the error almost never fails to appear. You may also try a Hardware profile running only the bare necessities required for your desired audio applications (Protools, etc)...
Also, I would possibly run a defrag on the system drive and try to do that on a regular basis (XP requires more HD space to run efficiently). Hope this helps |

Sounds like a common problem. Think I might wait until PT 6 is available, and then get a G4 dual proc. Thanks!

Hi LATablette-
Guess you can geta a Mac if you'd like. My old P3 800 system did better or equal on the DaveC than the G4's posted. Still, as stable as that setup was for me, it was power limited. There's a world of difference between it and the XP 1700 im playing with now. You're asking alot of a P3 800 running PT with Quicktime files, which is something you weren't doing in 98. Just some random thoughts. Good luck- |

Re: Help! Error 9128 "Your\'e running out of CPU power. Take out some plugins to free..."
I read that you have only 256 of ram.Digidesign specifically recommends 500meg for the 001.
It would surely be the most cost effective way to up your CPU power. |

Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case on the DUC.
With 256 or better ram, it's more CPU power that makes a difference as far as plug in's go. Quote:

Re: Help! Error 9128 "Your\'e running out of CPU power. Take out some plugins to free..."
Hi,
After asking digi support the same questions they answered that winXP and protools 5.3 (32Trk) consume more power than a 5.1 98/me system, therefore suggesting to upgrade to a faster cpu. I upgraded to a amd 2400 with 1gig of ram and my machine is realy clean, but the error occurs, especially at 128 buffer size. If U guys finbd a solution that'll be great.
