Default MacIntosh Plus???

When I was over my mother's house, I saw this ancient machine collecting dust with a tiny screen called "MacIntosh Plus". I am from the PC side and no nothing of Macs or their history. How old is this machine? Is it useful for anything musical today? (She used to be in graphic design years ago)

Thanks. I guess I can't really use it for anything, but it is interesting.

You can probably run whatever is already on it, probably just needs a battery. You could probably run an older version of a midi sequencer on it. I used to run Vision and Performer on a Mac color classic. Audio, no.

I still have my Mac Plus sitting in my studio. That's the box that started it all. Bought it new in '85 for around $3k - It required an external hard drive, but it did include a whopping 1 meg of ram.

It's amazing. $2600 originally, and my Handspring Visor can run circles around it today.

Technology is amazing. In 15 years, my kids will look at my $2K notebook and say "kinda cool, but we can't use it for much".

hehehe

Don't you need to have the OS on a floppy to start a Mac Plus?

Yup, you had to install the OS floppy to boot up. The OS would then remain in the RAM while you installed the application floppy.

I really get a kick out of seeing the way everybody complains about the price of technology these days.

If you have a big sledgehammer, a good mic, a good pre and a good sampler, I'm sure you could come up with some interesting musical samples
