Default Permission denied (13) "Pro tools 2018.10"

Hi,

I just upgraded from Pro tools 8.0.5 and got a MacBook Pro switching out my Imac that is 10 years old now.
When I open my old sessions in the new Pro tools 2018.10 everything seems to work fine except that I needed to assign virtual instruments to all channels to get any sound to play but...aside from this the problem I have now is:

Error message as you see below comes up when I want to save this session.

"Could not save as "Song # 2_1_3" because Permission denied (13) while opening "rghqXRFFsvvsTBSX"
And error number 2:
"Could not save as "Song # 2_1_3"because Permission denied (13) while creating "bounced files"while translating Bounce settings.

As common sense I'm looking at the read & write rights on my folders and drives but have not solved this yet. Is it anyone who can give me suggestions on what to do?

Some facts:
My older sessions lies on a external harddrive that I have connected to my MacBook Pro, I have full rights to read & write this drive.
There are no big problems opening my old sessions even if there is info regarding the busses that needs to be taken care of but it works fine to load sessions.
Macbook pro Core i7, late 2014, 16gb RAM with Pro tools 2018.10 just installed.
I have changed the cache folder and save settings in Pro tools and all sessions shall be saved on another external hard drive I want to use from now on.

So, how do I solve the problem that I cans save my work? I have searched in the forum but can't find this exact problem it seems like.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When starting a new session and working there is no problem saving my work so this happens only with the old saved sessions from my Pro tools 8 version.

Please help! :)
/ Daniel

Have you tried ignore ownership (bottom of Get Info window) on the external drive?

Hi ChuckS,

Yes! Well...I don't seem to have this checkbox on the old drive, I have changed the permissions to read & write for my user at least for this old drive. The new drive I have this option "ignore ownership" is available and checked.

When I open the "lock" to make changes on the drive there is a messages that says: Are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group and permissionsto all the enclosed items"?

It also says: "You can't undo this"

The only thing I changed on this drive is the "read & write" permission earlier to make sure I can write & read on the drive.
Shall I accept this and could this be where the problem lies?

Thanks so much for the support!

Does the old drive you are using for the external disk have the MacOS system on it also? If yes, can you just copy all your old session folders to the new external drive and work from there? After you're certain you don't need anything else on the old drive you can reformat it or just leave it as is and keep as an archive.

With a new MBP the place you should likely be running audio sessions is off the super fast internal PCIe/NVMe SSD, not an external drive. Keep session backups/archives etc. on (multiple) external drives. The internal drive will be faster than anything else you can connect. A Thunderbolt 3 NVMe SSD like a Samsung X5 or Sonet Fusion Thunderbolt 3 will be close. Advice to use dedicated audio/session drives no longer makes sense with these super fast SSD drives, let alone with them and disk cache.

Drag and drop a session folder to your internal drive and try running it from there. If you get the same error open Terminal.app, use the cd command to change directory into the folder you copied over and then in that folder type the command:

ls -l *

To get a long format directory listing, and copy and paste that output here.

And type the command

id

To show the account id and post that output here as well.
