Default Quad core versus 8 core

Hi, its time to upgrade my Mac and was wondering if there is any advantage going with 8 core versus quad core. I am still using a digi rack 002 with blacklion modification and want to keep using it. I would probably upgrade to pro tools 9 and currently use waves platinum bundle and reason as my main software/programs.

Thank you for any advice or thread that deals with this.

Jepse

My 2 cents, 8 cores is way better than 4. You could compromise and get a 6 core(still pretty darn potent). Personally, I have not been knocked out by Mac quads, but the newer i7 may be a different story.

The newest high end IMac outperforms the current Mac Pro quad core and approaches the performance of the 6 core. But this may change when new Mac Pros come out. When the new quad core Mac Pro comes out, it may outdo the current 6 and 8 cores.

Okay thank you. I was under the impression the new Mac desktop 8 core would be pretty amazing machines for pro tools.
