HDX smokes HD2
I havnt done anything but press play on my new HDX and let me tell you.
It absolutely smokes a HD2 rig. Before it seamed I was hitting the wall with everything I did, including the song I just referenced (HDX/HD2) . In HD2 I was maxed in all areas but track count ,in HDX I havnt even started, Mind you I have all stock plugs except Reverb One and T L Space. Where my HD2 tails off HDX is sitting down with a cold beer and saying ,is that all you got. If you are recording professionally or even just serious about your own projects HDX is a must unless you are running HD4/6 or maybe more. For this tremendous increase in HORSE POWER (dsp) I will gladly wait for all the plugins to become available. Native plugs almost don't register until you use a hole bunch. I haven't tried yet but I bet using NATIVE plugs is more DSP than a HD2 alone and you havnt even touched DSP yet. (Mac Pro 8 core) I have absolutly no doubt that HDX will allow me to make the music I always wanted to but couldn't afford to. This new HDX will take you place,s you havnt even imagined yet. I do not work for AVID in any way SERIOUSLY just go buy it if you can |

The point being, and perhaps I'm missing something here, Native plug count is most likely exactly the same on HD versus HDX, simply because, in both cases, you're using the host computer for the plugs. |

Re: HDX smokes HD2
unless you need to open session with Amp Farm, Echo Farm, and the list of plug-ins that will never be on HDX.

Totally agree with you PhatBeatStudio... HDX-3 here... since 5 days! Running super smoothly! Some remarks: Tried recording 768 tracks ... no problem... disk activity: 6 % !!!! Channelstrip AAX DSP max instantiated : 1000 ! (one thousand!!!) Trident A-Range Softube AAX DSP max instantiated: 384 ! When you switch different latency compensation settings NO MORE CLOSING AND REOPENING THE SESSION.. it switches in one second! Activating HEAT on a 130 track session.. takes 2 seconds!! and only ONE dsp ! The general feeling is MUCH more snappier, smoother, and pleasant to work with then my old HD6 system! Regarding AAX DSP plugins, apart from Avid ones (revibe II, reverb one, EQ3, mod dly III, Real tape suite, D-fi bundle) all the Softube plugins are running in DSP (apart from TSAR-1). Tomorrow (2nd of January) more AAX plugins from brainworx will be available... and I hope that Waves, during NAMM, will do an announcement.. Of all the switches (Mix+ to HD, HD to Accel, etc.) this is one of the best planned and one of the smoothest. Regards. Michele
