Pops and crackles
Can someone please help me. I am running Digidesign Rack 002 with ProTools Le 6.4 on a Windows XP Pro system. I have an Ultragain Pro-8 Digital ADA8000 connected through lightpipe to get an extra 8 channels into my system. When I am recording, I'm picking up 'pops' in these ADAT channels. They are OK when the recordings are loud but on quiet recordings they are very audible and annoying.
Could anyone suggest a remedy or a cause for this situation. I can't find anything on it in the Help files. Much appreciated. Mickaz

Re: Pops and crackles
Pops and cracks are almost always a result of a clocking mismatch. Make sure you select one of the devices (Ultragain Pro-8 Digital ADA8000 or Digi002R) as the master and the other as the slave. Set the sample rate on the master (probably the Ultragain Pro-8 Digital ADA8000) and set to use internal clock. Set the slave device (probably the Digi002R) to external clock on the ADAT inputs.
The other possibility for the pops and crackles are defective cables but that is less likely.

Re: Pops and crackles
Thanks Obs Dragon, I spent half a day trying to remedy the situation and discovered that is was the 'clocking' configuration. I had it set up for ADAT but if you don't use the ADAT, it reverts back to the Internal setting. Was in a bit of a panic.... my first "paid" band recording session was happening in 2 days and I had this problem. Phew! I can sleep tonight.
Cheers
