OK, this thread started out a bit cranky and is going no where at this point. Since I first started this thread, I have used pt8 a bit and here are my final thoughts on the subject:

Ok, the visuals are darker and less visible but one can adapt. By the way, in 7.4, I when coloring tracks, the whole track header adopts the color. In pt8, there is only a small tag at the left that gets colored... am I missing something?

Digi decided to change things around for no reason... but that's life and humans can adapt

Loss of real estate: now THAT is unforgivable, comming from a compagny that has supposably so much experience. There is no work around for loss of real estate...

And, another thing I don't get, and I hope I'm wrong about this:
The new midi edit page ''piano roll'' is situate at the bottum of the screen. To access it one has to lift the separator manually, and then pull it back down after your midi tweek is finished. Correct me if I'm wrong but in my 400$ Cakewalk Sonar, the piano roll page can be a floating window that you can drag on to a different screen. PLEASE tell me that I am wrong and digi has the same system but I just didn't find out how to do this yet....

Double click on a midi region and you will see that the editor does indeed float.
You can use it both ways.
