Default Re: Alesis AI-3 Converters VS Digi 002R Converters

Ho boy. This has gone the wrong direction...

Let me clear a few things up. The 'mystery channel', as you so well put it, is my Avalon 737. No, I not looking for this to be the only unit going into my 002R, it's just one of the many units that I'd be putting into the system. And hey, every $300 counts! The best price I've found on that unit is $1850, but I've since re-thought the entire layout. I've been living without real nice converters for a long time. I just used my AI-3 whenever I needed more inputs. I've mixed plenty of creditable material in the last year and a half that all of my clients have been happy with. So after a lot of thought about what I really needed, I'm just going to bypass on the converters. I know! I know, I've been a bog up everyones ass trying to get this all figured out. But I'm just going to pass on it for now and invest in some nice preamps. I find that it's something that can always be added later.

Chris, in my particular scenario, I'll be feeding the nice preamp into the ok converters. Because honestly, the 002R's converters don't suck. In fact, they are pretty nice. They get the job done. And that's enough for me right now. My secret weapon 'strip' looks like a real nice package. An avalon 737SP feeding a U87. Oh my...that's going to be nice. I think sub-par converters will be just fine with that much ammo behind it!

I think this is a wise move.
