Post Track sounds different after recording

I tried search and I found this thread with one similar problem but no solution.

I have the guitar plugged into the Mbox Mini 3, and when I listen to the monitors it sounds how I want it to sound. It still sounds correct while I'm recording. Then when I playback, it sounds different, like the quality has deteriorated greatly. I'm using a single plugin. I want to stress that during recording it sounds the way I have adjusted it to sound, but once I playback the sound is distorted.

I'm using Pro Tools 8, Lenovo with i5 processor, 6GB ram, internal 5400 rpm hd. 24bit 48khz session.

Please please help and thank you.
