Formatting a hard drive?

Hey guys,

I recently just recieved a 250 GB hard drive from my school which i am majoring in audio production at. However, the drive is formatted for mac only right now and I have a pc at home. My teacher explained to me how to format it so that I could use it with both mac and pc, but it was kind of confusing. All I remember is him saying something about phat32 or something. Does anyone know the steps involved in formatting a hard drive to fuction on both mac and pc?
