3940UW 4.1 BOOT PROBLEMS...HELP!!!

I am running a G3 beige with an adaptec 3940UW. Digi requires firmware version 4.1 to be flashed for PT5.1.1. When I flash the card and reboot, my system hangs on the smiley mac. ( Using firmware 3.0 , no problems.) If I power down and turn off all drives but two it will boot.

I took the drives out of the rack, put them on the bench and looked at all the pins and jacks carefully, no problems. I seem to be able to hook up any two drives and the mac boots... When I go for three, it hangs.

I have replaced the all cables and Adaptec replaced the 3940. I also reformatted all drives with FWB 4.5.

HELP!!!
