Default RTAS announcement - Moderators, remove if you feel necessary.

Sorry for the cross-post, but announcing RTAS availability for our plugins.

Scott

Never, sorry. I can't justify the expense for TDM. When I get started on AAX, I am hoping to develop DSP versions as well as native. Best I can do, sorry.

This seems to support the notion that coding AAX Native and DSP both is cheaper and more cost effective than coding RTAS and TDM both. If this is true it certainly would raise hopes that other developers would see fit to write DSP versions of their plugins. It seems like it would be an opportunity that it would not make sense to bypass.

Hey Scott.
The sooner you make yours AAX DSP, you may be surprised at how fast they get snatched up. We HDX users feel like we're adrift at sea. Softube came out fast at the gate and lots of users are snatching them up whereas before, they were more optional than necessary.I would take a good look at your portfolio of plugins if they're ready soon for DSP.

good luck!

A big difference is the cost of the development tools...I think this has already been posted somewhere, but the development toolset for the Motorola (Freescale) DSP chips in TDM cards is somewhere around $5K USD. The equivalent toolset for the HDX card, however, is about $500 USD. We still have to buy an HD (or HDX) rig for testing, so it's not cheap no matter how you do it, but for a small developer HDX looks a lot more doable from a sheer initial cash outlay standpoint than TDM ever was.

Anyway...this is for the future. I don't even have Native AAX up and running yet, much less DSP, and I need to get RTAS out into the wild in full release status before I even start thinking much about it.

Thanks for the input, though...seriously.

Scott

Are there any discounts from Avid available for developers or do you have to pay the same as anyone else?

Hmmm, things you don't stop to think about. Makes you appreciate capitalism all the more when you realize the risks people have to take to make the thingys we all want. Thanks for your efforts, Scott!
