Help with computer choice

Hi! I am a newbie - just purchased an 002Rack yesterday and would like to hear any recommendations for a solid performing QUIET laptop and QUIET external drive for my new system. Anyone using one of the e-machines laptops with the Athelon 64 3200 or 3400 processor? Which version of Windows XP is more appropriate for ProToolsLE , Home or Professional edition? And last, what midi editing functions does ProToolsLE provide? Mcgrathx
