Default Maxtor DiamondMax or IBM Deskstar ?

I need to buy a 60GB harddisk

I have two options:
1. Maxtor DiamondMax D740X 60,0GB UDMA 133
2. IBM Deskstar 60GXP 61,5GB 7200 UDMA 100

Both cost $ 220.00 and my motherboard is ATA100.

Which the best option? 1 or 2?

go with the ibm, but don't pay $220. its $111 at newegg.com and maybe cheaper on pricewatch....

They are both great drives. The Maxtors seem to run a little quieter than the IBMs, but barely noticeable. I have both and if I had to buy another one, I'd stick with that IBM 60GXP at www.newegg.com that is listed above. Stay away from the 75GXP.
Good luck.

They are both great drives. I have both. The Maxtor's are quieter. I am a little more partial to Maxtor because they purchased parts from a company I used to work for. IBM bought this same part from a vendor overseas. Buy American!

Go for a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV. These are faster and quieter than both the drives you mention and cheeper than the Deskstar.
