So much for giving us any information on your system.

I noticed.

But some system specs will help those of us who want to help you. It sounds to me like your system is choking. I've heard the noise burst you describe when trying to insert a new plugin while audio is playing and my system is already working hard. This isn't the same as the "white noise bursts" that were an issue in 8.0.3.

What version of OSX are you using? Have you made 100% absolutely sure ALL of your plugins are up to date?

White noise can have several causes (as evidenced by this thread) and incompatible plug-ins are high on the list.

Can you visit the Help Us Help You thread for details about what we need to know to assist you - a Sandra report, a list of installed plug-in versions, which Avid hardware you're using and details about which troubleshooting steps you've tried are all critical.

My mistake for asking for a Sandra report - that's only for PC's.

How are those drives formatted? GUID or APM? Did you erase them before putting them into use? If not - back them up and erase them, making sure to use GUID as the partition map scheme. Typically factory formats are a cause for problems like this.

Have you tested with only a single drive and the 002? What about with the internal drive and the 002 and without the FireWire drives attached? Do either of the drives have more than 1 FireWire 400 port?

I'm leaning toward this being a drive issue, given what you've told me.

Have you made sure to put those drives in the privacy panel of Spotlight? Spotlight indexing a drive while you're using Pro Tools could cause noise bursts like what you're describing.

Ive tried everything your saying here. Running off of just the internal didnt help.

My main issue isnt even the white noise...which happens but not nearly as much as the whole system locking up. During playback or tracking the sound will keep going but all the meters freeze and the spinny ball appears. Then i have to force quit and relaunch...this has been happening since i first installed PT then i reformatted everything and started from scratch and it still does it
