Default Best Free RTAS Plug-ins

How about we list the best free RTAS plug-ins we use, since PT doesnt come with much on its own, everyone needs to expand. Effects and virtual instruments welcome!

Your probably gonna have a hard time finding "good" free plugins. I have found some at the following site that I used for a while, but ended up replacing with nice purchase plugs later.

Enjoy!

The best free RTAS are the demo versions of the Massey plugins. They don't expire and can't be automated, but they sound good and you can bus to new tracks or commit them as Audiosuite.

Hey Albee!

I have a question for ya. How you would rate the Massey plugins from a full purchase price point of view.

Do you work with any on a regular basis. Do you feel like they are pretty decent and worth the money?

Thanks man!

Are you sure you have installed Pro tools correctly? Because Pro Tools (especially now version 8) has always included many usable, professional plug-ins. An argument can be made that many third party plug-ins sound better and in some cases do more- but Pro Tools users use many of the built in plug ins everyday.

promixr has a good point about the included plugs. A couple of years back the band Cake did an album on an 002 with nothing but the plugs included. I just posted a song on my MySpace site that uses only the included plugs and synths. I love a lot of the other stuff out there, but sometimes I put limits on what I use just to see what I can squeeze out of what I have.

That being said I also dig the Massey plugs!!!

You should just go download the Massey demos and give them a try. As I said, the demo versions are free and do not expire. If you decide some are perfect for you, you can buy what you like and not have to buy the ones you don't like. I tested them a while back and liked them fine but since I have lots of other stuff to choose from, I didn't install them on my new system.

Good stuff man!

I have and use the Waves L2 a lot. I have a few other nice plugs from them. I like the Waves stuff a good deal. Especial the Renn stuff. I have heard people talk a lot of nice things about Massey, and have even said some of their stuff is better then the Waves stuff. I was just wondering if you had any take on that. I'm sure its all choice. I'm just a plugin nut! LOL

LOVE MY IN THE BOX MIXING AND MASTERING!

Thanks for your input man. Always appreciated!

Nick

The Massey plugs are great...especially the 2007 limiter. I'm just a 'serious hobbyist' in my home studio, but even some of the pro's are raving about this plug.....finding it easier to use and better sounding than some of the very expensive alternatives.
It's under $100, I ended up buying it and the CT4 comp 'cause I use them so much.

I have to agree on the Waves stuff and I am back to them mostly because I ma used to them(creature of habit). I am trying to wean myself off of them as the WUP and constant paid upgrades is a pain and they are quite expensive to start. Massey is the only company(AFAIK) who's demo versions don't expire(but you do suffer with constantly restoring your settings). And there are some things that are simply worth paying for. For those on tight budgets, at least PT8 added a lot of solid stuff. I think the IK Classik verbs are a good deal and reverb is the one spot where Digi falls short. Dverb is okay when I need something "trashy" but I need better verbs. The stock compressors, EQ's and delays work great and I use them a lot. I think I could do most everything I need with the stock package, the IK verbs, the Pultec bundle and Massey's limiter if I had to.
