Well said. And I can confirm that if Avid will stop to support perpetual licenses I will maintain mine frozen for opening pt sessions and I will definitively switch over

I’m having an issue with the newest version of Waves and PT 2020.5 on Win 10. Before ypu ask, yes I have done all the recommended tweaks (even the affinity core fix) and I have a computer that meets the recommended specs.

If i insert a Waves VI, the entire system will not play and will throw up a -9173 error. Removing all inserts will not make it play again. Restarting PT doesn’t fix it. Restart the entire computer and everything is back to normal and plays fine. So there you go, even a long term dev like Waves can’t get their stuff running 100% on PT. Not sure why PT always has 9173 issues, but this happens with me using a fraction of my available voices 90 out of 356 (might not be the exact number) and cpu at 60%.

Try a fan on the trashcan. They tend to overheat and slow down

I think the trash can heat handling is pretty good .. draws from the bottom and exists from the top
Might be the best part of the design

The trashcan thermal design is cute and quiet, with lots of trade offs. The limited thermal design was even called out by Apple when they discussed why they were abandoning the design.

You see more complaints about trashcan cooling by folks doing heavy video or numerical work. So seems reasonable to keep an eye on temperatures. They tend to clog up with dust, so worth having a peek to check. And remember the issues are not likely to be absolute overheating but how much CPU, GPU and SSD are having to throttle to keep the temperature in range.

Yea, youre probably right. I'll shut up about PT10, fair enough. But I just wanted to interject my 2 cents about 'Avid' and plugins. Hopefully you guys can find a version that works as well as mine does. Id love to get a 2020 version, but I wont until they give me clip bins.

Been using a “trashcan” since they came out. Lots of heavy audio audio and video work and no thermal issues at all.

Are you running any Bluetooth accessories or Airport Wifi? Try turning them off and using cabled peripherals. Bluetooth especially can be problematic. Also, try CPUSetter to disable HyperThreading. I won't promise those will solve your problem, but they may.

Same here. No overheating issues whatsoever, but have only been running three displays on those two GPU's. I can imagine more heat if you run six displays but as far as CPU heat, that is negligible

Always a good thing to review when having DAW performance problems.

CPU Performance vs. Real-Time Performance in Digital Audio Workstations (DAW)
